Inveniam data scientist wins gold at
international Hackathon

Iheb Chaabane has clinched the top spot at the H2o.ai-organized hackathon. The competition was run as part of the H2O Open Source GenAI World Conference in San Francisco. Chaabane is a data scientist with Inveniam, a software company that specialises in artificial intelligence computer vision solutions for critical infrastructure industries.

"Winning is exhilarating. The recognition and sense of accomplishment have been very rewarding," Chaabane said about his victory.Chaabane participates in international competitions to improve himself and the AI community, he said."I'm driven by the pursuit of knowledge and the opportunity to push the boundaries of what's possible in machine learning."

More than 100 worldwide data scientists competed for the top honour.“As a four-time Kaggle Grandmaster myself, I know how stiff the competition can be for international Hackathons," said Rob Mulla, senior principal data scientist with H2O.ai and one of the top-rated data scientists in the world. Mulla was also the host of the competition.“I want to congratulate Iheb on his competition win. He's proved he has what it takes to stand out in the world of data science," said Mulla.

He said Hackathons are part of the process to democratize artificial intelligence.“By holding competitions like this, we learn new insights about AI while motivating participants to deepen their understanding and intuition about how AI operates," Mulla said. From October 24 to November 7, data scientists from across the globe competed to showcase their abilities in machine learning and data science. The hackathon focused on Natural Language Processing and Generative Artificial Intelligence.

Participants were given a data set, use case, problem statement, evaluation metrics and other details and tasked with creating an innovative machine-learning model and solution to handle the challenging scenario.According to Kaggle, a website that brings together and tracks the competitions of the machine learning/AI community and functions as the home venue for many hackathons, Chaabane beat 105 other competitors for the top prize with a score of 0.508 and 52 entries.

“It's thanks to award-winning data scientists like Iheb that Inveniam has produced one of the best AI solutions on the market," said Inveniam CEO Ahmed Ghorbal.

“Quality is essential to everything we do at Inveniam. Congratulations to Iheb for his personal and professional excellence. I look forward to continue working with some of the world's top data scientists to keep pushing the boundaries of what AI can do," Ghorbal said.

Natural Language Processing is a form of AI that has existed for more than 50 years. NLP is the specialised training of computers to understand spoken and written human language.Generative AI became a well-known topic with the sudden popularity of ChatGPT in early 2023.
